USC’s Morton and UCLA’s J.J. Stokes were named the receivers on the Football News All-American team.

San Diego State’s Marshall Faulk, Florida’s Errict Rhett and Northern Illinois’ LeShon Johnson are the running backs, with Florida State’s Charlie Ward at quarterback. UCLA’s Jamir Miller was one of four linebackers named to the team.

UCLA’s Miller, Trev Alberts of Nebraska and Derrick Brooks of Florida State are the finalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to college football’s top linebacker. The winner will be announced Dec. 11.

June Henley, the Kansas freshman who leads the Big Eight in rushing, has been accused of shoplifting. Henley, 18, received a citation from police on a municipal charge of petty larceny, said John Powell, the Municipal Court administrator. His arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 30. . . . Florida State’s Tamarick Vanover, one of the nation’s top freshman last season, has been suspended for Saturday’s game against North Carolina State for missing too many classes. . . . Running back Robert Strait, who scored four touchdowns in Baylor’s 38-14 victory over Rice last week, was dismissed from the team for unspecified violations of team policy.

NBC’s telecast of Saturday’s Florida State-Notre Dame was the highest-rated regular-season college football game since 1981, the network said Thursday. The 31-24 victory by Notre Dame drew an A.C. Nielsen rating of 16 with a 39 share.
