Quick-Starting Savanna Defeats Los Altos, 41-22 : DIVISION VI

Savanna scored four touchdowns in the first quarter and held off Hacienda Heights Los Altos, 41-22, in a Division IV game Friday night at Los Altos High.

The Rebels rolled up 552 yards in total offense, lead by quarterback Paul Waldrop’s 235 yards passing. Running back Daven King rushed for an additional 153 yards in 11 carries, and Rani Kahouch caught six passes for 165 yards and three touchdowns for Savanna (9-2).

The Rebels scored on their first possession when King ran 46 yards with a pitchout on the third play of the game.

Los Altos could not move the ball with its no-huddle offense, and Savanna picked up where it left off when King took his second carry of the game 66 yards for a touchdown with 7 minutes 48 seconds left in the first quarter.

Canhhuy Nguyen set up the Rebels’ third touchdown when he ran 83 yards up the middle before being caught from behind at the five. Mike Flores then scored from two yards out to make it 21-0.

The Rebels knocked out Los Altos quarterback Dylan Aquino with a hard hit late in the first quarter, forcing a fumble that Savanna recovered at midfield.

Waldrop then connected on his first of three touchdown passes to Kahouch. The Rebels’ lead was 21-0 after one quarter.

Los Altos (6-5) closed the gap to 27-14 late in the third quarter, but Kahouch hauled in a pair of touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to blow the game wide open.

Waldrop finished the game completing 13 of 22 passes, while Los Altos quarterback Darren Merrill was 11 for 28.
