OUTLOOK
Coach Tubbs is looking forward to his second year of coaching the Aztecs. While lacking somewhat in experience, the Aztecs still have two players--Brannan and Rodriguez--who started last year. As well, Tubbs said the team is without height, but he believes the Aztecs can make up for it with their quickness and aggressiveness on defense. “We want to take the ball to the basket. And if the lane is closed, we have to get some good outside shooting,” Tubbs said. “As far as defense goes, we’ll be tenacious, and hopefully we’ll make our opponents uncomfortable.” The Aztecs will be led by top returners Rodriguez, a senior who plays guard, Brannan and sophomore Gondringer, who Tubbs called an “unselfish player who leads by example.” Rodriguez and Gondringer made first team all-league last year and Brannan was an all-league honorable mention. Tubbs said he’s also hoping for some good things from Bethel Baptist transfer Carrie Ogilvie, who will be playing center. “We’ll vie for a top-three spot and a trip to the playoffs,” Tubbs said.
