OXNARD : 3 Slightly Injured When Car Spins Out

Three Oxnard residents were treated for minor injuries and released after the car in which they were riding crashed and spun out of control on a bridge spanning the Santa Clara River, officials said Monday.

Sarah Dowd, 19, William Taylor, 20, and Melinda Long, 17, were treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center following the accident, which occurred about 7:20 p.m. Sunday just outside the Oxnard city limit.

All three suffered minor cuts and scrapes and were released after being examined, a St. John’s spokeswoman said. Laquint Holt, 18, of Port Hueneme, a passenger in the car, was not injured, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Dowd was driving north on Victoria Avenue at about 85 m.p.h. when she lost control of the car on a curve, officials said. The vehicle slammed into a concrete center diver just south of the Santa Clara River bridge and then spun back into the northbound lanes before stopping, authorities said.

Dowd and her three passengers were wearing seat belts, which minimized their injuries, officials said.
