Local rockers will play a benefit concert Sunday at Club Mesa in memory of Britt Reeves, a staunch supporter of the Orange County grass-roots punk and alternative rock scene who died Nov. 2.

“He was at every show for years and years,” said Brad Allen, a staffer at Doctor Dream Records in Orange who is coordinating the benefit with Club Mesa booker Jeff Mylucky. “He did his best to spread word of mouth for bands. He lived for music.”

Allen said that Reeves, a Costa Mesa resident, died of drug-related causes at age 34. In addition to being a fan, Reeves had been a member of the road crews for the Cadillac Tramps and other local bands.

Allen said Reeves’ family asked that proceeds from the benefit go to an agency involved in drug abuse treatment. The organizers have chosen the Costa Mesa ALANO Club at 2040 Placentia Ave., a drop-in center for people recovering from substance abuse and a meeting place for 12-step programs.

The concert bill features Wolf Pack, Bone Crusher, the Stitches, Glory Holes, 2 Burner Hotplate, Das Clown, Relics, Burn Baby Burn, Exploding F-Dolls, the Grabbers, One Hit Wonder and special guests Woodpile. The bands will play from 5:30 p.m. until midnight. Club Mesa is at 843 W. 19th St. Admission is $5. (714) 642-8448.

There’s another holiday-season local-band extravaganza to consider, this one entitled “Orange County’s Music Scene Presents A Christmas Benefit for Kids.”

Alternative rockers Water, the Violet Burning, Trouble Dolls, Factory and Suburban Parade will be the featured acts for this show, Dec. 9 at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. Tickets cost $10, $8 for concert-goers who donate a wrapped toy worth $5 or more. Proceeds will go to the Human Options women and children’s shelter in Laguna Beach. (714) 496-8930.
