Encino Man Is Shot to Death
Los Angeles police were searching Thursday for the killers of a 20-year-old Encino man who was gunned down in a drive-by shooting as he stood with friends in the parking lot of a convenience store.
Baudelio Salazar Marquez died about 3:30 a.m. after he was struck in the upper torso by a single shot fired from a passing car outside the 7-Eleven market at Victory Boulevard and Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood, Detective Mike Coffey said.
Another man standing in the crowd with Marquez, 27-year-old Miguel Velasquez, was struck in the arm by the bullet, Coffey said. Velasquez was treated for the injury at a nearby hospital and released.
Coffey said Marquez and Velasquez had spent the evening with friends at a bar near the corner of Victory and Lankershim Boulevard. He said it was unclear whether the killers--described as two men in a white four-door American car--followed the group from the bar to the convenience store.
“I don’t know if anything happened at the bar,” Coffey said, adding that the crime did not appear to be gang-related.
