Hills Leads Barons Past El Dorado

Jamal Hills scored a touchdown in each quarter to lead Fountain Valley to a 34-13 victory over El Dorado in the Southern Section Division II quarterfinals Friday night at Valencia High.

The Barons (10-2), third-place finishers in the Sunset League, will face Los Alamitos next Saturday in the semifinals at a site to be announced.

Hills scored on the Barons’ first two drives on pass receptions of 10 and 21 yards, giving Fountain Valley a 14-0 lead at halftime.

El Dorado (6-6) had two opportunities to score in the first half but was stopped on the Baron nine-yard line when Bill Nix batted down a fourth-down pass attempt. A second scoring chance was squandered when John Harcar intercepted a pass on the Baron two-yard line late in the half.

Fountain Valley took a 21-0 lead on the fourth play of the third quarter when Chuck Harcar sped 53 yards for a touchdown.

The Golden Hawks scored for the first time with 3:14 left in the third period when Jeff Moore returned a punt 88 yards to make the score 21-6. The extra-point effort failed.

On the next play, Bertoni hit Hills with a sideline pass and he raced up the sideline for an 84-yard touchdown play to put the game out of reach.

Hills scored again for Fountain Valley in the fourth quarter on a nine-yard reverse.

El Dorado’s Spencer Frost completed the scoring with a 31-yard touchdown run.

Bertoni completed nine of 15 pass attempts for 208 yards with Hills catching five for 141 yards.

Frost was the leading rusher for El Dorado with 85 yards.
