OUTLOOK

Experience should benefit the Tillers. Not only do they have four starters back, but Carr--who will also start--is probably the team’s most-improved player. They should also be able to draw upon their quickness in what should be a very competitive league. Needham could develop into a player as the season progresses; she averaged 21 points on the junior varsity. Lack of height could hurt the Tillers, but of greater concern is the lack of depth. Unless there are some late transfers, Falk will carry only nine players on the varsity and any injury--even to a non-starter--could be devastating as the season wears on. The focus of the team will likely revolve around Scheuerman and Davis, who is moving from off guard to point guard to enhance her scholarship chances. She is being recruited by Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Tustin stands a good chance to continue its playoff run, having appeared in the postseason every year since 1973. The Tillers reached the playoffs last year by winning a one-game playoff with Corona del Mar. They hope it doesn’t come down to that this year.
