Hansen First in Year's Last Race

Scott Hansen of Simi Valley won the 20-lap USAC three-quarter Midget main event Saturday night as the season closed at Ventura Raceway.

Hansen survived five yellow flags and several crashes but still managed to come from a seventh-place start, holding off Kenny White and Randy Moody, both of Ventura.

J.J. Ercse of Bellflower, who had clinched the USAC Western States three-quarter championship earlier in the week in Bakersfield, finished fifth in the feature. White finished second in the final point standings. Hansen, whose brother Rob won the Dwarf car championship, finished third.

Page Jones of Torrance won the 30-lap Midget main event. Stevie Reeves of Speedway, Ind., won the national points championship.

In three-quarter heat races, Jim Brusseau (Pasadena), Rick Hendrix (Simi Valley) and John Sarna (Huntington Beach) were winners. Shane Scully (Encino) won the 10-lap semi main event.

Stan Fox (Janesville, Wis.), Walt Johnson (Sun Valley) and George Ito (Ventura) were Midget heat race winners. Andy Mincher (Somerset, Mich.) won the 10-lap semi main event.
