Share

A car rear-ended a van in heavy traffic Wednesday and caused it to careen off the Garden Grove Freeway into a ditch, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Lisa Perez, 26, of Orange was behind a Motorola van on the westbound freeway about 8:15 a.m., Officer Joan Rivas said. The van stopped for slow traffic near Harbor Boulevard, but Perez failed to stop in time, Rivas said. The van, struck from behind, went down an embankment.

The van driver was treated for lower back pains at UCI Medical Center in Orange, officers said. Perez was not hurt, and a teen-age boy in her car was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
