When Reseda and San Pedro high schools meet on the gridiron tonight, more will be at stake than just the right to play in the city championship next week.

Also riding on the game will be bragging rights among the members of the Los Angeles City Council.

Councilwoman Laura Chick, whose district includes Reseda High, said Thursday that a “friendly cross-town wager” had been finalized with Councilman Rudy Svorinich, whose district includes San Pedro High.

The bet was initiated on Tuesday when Svorinich issued the challenge during a City Council meeting.

For her part, Chick will put up a basket of fresh fruit and vegetables grown in the San Fernando Valley. Svorinich has backed his challenge with a load of fresh fish from San Pedro.

The game in San Pedro between the Reseda High Regents and the San Pedro Pirates is a semifinal match in the three-A citywide division. The winner plays in the championship next week.
