GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Brea Rolls to Showdown With Lynwood

Five players finished in double figures as Brea-Olinda jumped out to a 41-14 halftime lead and rolled to a 77-34 victory over Etiwanda in a semifinal of the Etiwanda girls’ basketball tournament Friday night at Rancho Cucamonga High.

Brea will meet Lynwood, a semifinal winner over Apple Valley, in a meeting between two of the nation’s top teams for the championship at 7:30 tonight.

The Ladycats, last year’s State Division II champions, are ranked 15th nationally by USA Today; Lynwood is No. 11. According to State preseason polls, Brea is ranked No. 1 by Cal-Hi Sports and Lynwood No. 2. Lynwood, the defending Division I champion, is also ranked 16th by Street and Smith magazine.

Lynwood brings a 34-game winning streak to the final. Brea-Olinda has not lost in 24 games.

Against Etiwanda, Colleen Hudson scored 16 points, Lee Moulin 12 and Nicole Erickson 10.

In the Century tournament:

Troy 63, Century 19--Jennie Gadd scored 20 points, and Dinah Shah, Stephanie Bloomingdale and Becky How each added eight to lead Troy (3-0) to the tournament championship.

Corona del Mar 43, Santa Ana Valley 32--Lindsay Warmington scored 15 points to lead Corona del Mar (2-1) to third.

In the Irvine tournament:

Estancia 74, Saddleback 43--Cindy Richards scored 20 points, Laura Czingula had 19 points and 15 rebounds and Jessica Waltz added 10 steals and 11 assists to lead Estancia (2-0) into tonight’s 7:30 final against host Irvine.

Irvine 36, La Mirada 33--Shawnee Stevens had 11 points and 20 rebounds for Irvine.

Foothill 31, Anaheim 29 (OT)--Stacey Brunansky scored 10 points to lead Foothill (2-1) in the consolation game. Charisse Correa had nine points and six assists and Stephanie Durrett added 14 rebounds to lead Anaheim (1-2).

In the semifinals of the Fullerton tournament:

Rosary 64, La Serna 47--Jennifer Chey had a game-high 21 points and five assists, and Addy Benard added 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Rosary (3-0) into tonight’s final against Katella.

Katella 38, Fullerton 31--Katella held Fullerton to only 11 points in the second half to overcome a 20-15 halftime deficit.

In the Carson City (Nev.) tournament:

Marina 61, Wooster (Nev. 37)--Shandy Robbins had 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Martita Emde had 11 points and six assists for Marina (2-0), which will face host Carson City in the tournament final at 5 p.m. today.

In the Hacienda Heights Wilson tournament:

San Gabriel 53, Whittier Christian 37--Alana Kempton scored 15 points as Whittier Christian dropped to 1-3. San Gabriel is 2-2.

In nonleague play:

Rio Hondo Prep 49, Liberty Christian 22--Sarah Anderson scored nine points to lead Liberty (1-1).
