Grant School Christian Club Its Rights

* Allowing a Christian club to have official recognition at Sunny Hills High School in no way violates the First Amendment. School officials and civil libertarians state that “non-sponsorship is key to maintaining the Constitutional ban against government establishment of religion.”

In no way is the government even coming close to establishing a state religion by allowing sponsorship for a Christian club. This is ridiculous.

And what about the second part of the First Amendment, which is so often and conveniently neglected? Congress shall not “prohibit the free exercise of religion.”

The Christian Club’s rights are being violated. It’s time to clarify this myth of separation of church and state. The First Amendment has been used as a weapon against religion instead of the protection it was intended to be.

May God abundantly bless this Christian Club and their courageous leaders and all other Christian clubs across America.

* I strongly believe that the Christian Club of Sunny Hills High School should be allowed official recognition by the district and the school.

Today’s students strongly need all the moral guidance they can get. In this present society, anything goes. The moral fiber of this country is being shaken. When cartoons like Beavis and Butt-head find widespread appeal among youth, we have come a long way since “Leave It to Beaver.”

We need forces to counteract a lack of ethics. Alternatives must be made available for those who choose them, but without exposure, whose influence predominates?

Please do not impede the establishment of full club rights for these young people. They only seek to do what is right in their hearts, and their concern is not for themselves but for other people.

They are to be commended for their courage, and given every assistance. In these times of diminishing morality, a small change in district policy could truly mean a lot.
