NBA ROUNDUP : Robinson and Rodman Are Too Much for 76ers

David Robinson had 37 points, 14 rebounds and seven blocked shots, lifting the San Antonio Spurs to their eighth consecutive victory, 90-82 over the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night at Philadelphia.

Dennis Rodman grabbed 14 rebounds as the Spurs won their fourth straight game on the road. Jeff Hornacek had 26 points for the 76ers, who lost their fourth straight.

Robinson, second in the league in scoring, made 13 of 22 shots, mostly jumpers from the outside.

“I had a lot of good opportunities because the guys really move the ball and that opens it up for me,” Robinson said.

J.R. Reid had 14 points and Dale Ellis 13 for San Antonio. Barros had 22 points and Clarence Weatherspoon 16 points and 14 rebounds for Philadelphia.

Utah 122, Charlotte 108--Karl Malone had 35 points and 14 rebounds and Jeff Malone scored 22 points at Salt Lake City.

It was the Hornets’ fifth straight road loss and sixth defeat in eight games.

Alonzo Mourning led the Hornets with 36 points.

Jazz rookie Bryon Russell added 14 points and John Stockton had 11 points and 17 assists.

New York 123, Sacramento 101--Patrick Ewing scored 31 points, and Anthony Bonner matched his season-high with 17 against his former teammates at New York.

It was the Kings’ sixth straight loss.

John Starks added 18 points, including 11 in the third period when New York opened a 25-point lead. The 123 points were a season-high for the Knicks, but they allowed 100 for the first time in 11 games.

The Kings were led by Lionel Simmons with 22 points.

Portland 118, Washington 105--Clyde Drexler, held to a total of 25 points his last two games, scored 25 at Landover.

Clifford Robinson scored 26 points, Buck Williams had 21 points and 14 rebounds and Terry Porter finished with 22 points for the Trail Blazers, who extended the Bullets’ losing streak to three games.

The Bullets were led by Don MacLean’s 24 points.

Orlando 87, Cleveland 83--Donald Royal tipped in his own missed shot for the go-ahead basket with 21 seconds left and Shaquille O’Neal grabbed the clinching rebound at Richfield, Ohio.

It was the Magic’s first win in its last seven trips to Richfield Coliseum.

The Cavaliers, who led by 16 early in the third quarter, blew a big second-half lead for the second straight game.

O’Neal had 23 points and 15 rebounds, Anfernee Hardaway scored 17 points and Royal 16 for Orlando.

Mark Price led Cleveland with 17 points.

Golden State 99, Indiana 92--Chris Webber scored a season-high 26 points to lead the Warriors at Oakland.

The Pacers, leading, 33-21, after one quarter, scored only 59 points the rest of the game and committed a season-high 25 turnovers, including 11 in the second quarter while blowing a 14-point lead.

Latrell Sprewell scored 19 points and Billy Owens had 18 for the Warriors, who won for the fourth time in five games. Reggie Miller had 22 points and Rik Smits 20 for Indiana.

Seattle 99, Minnesota 82--Sam Perkins scored 22 points and Nate McMillan’s two three-pointers led a decisive fourth-quarter spurt at Seattle.

McMillan’s two long baskets keyed an 11-0 run that gave the SuperSonics a 76-57 lead early in the fourth quarter.

Seattle beat the Timberwolves for the 11th straight time and held Minnesota to its season low. Doug West scored 18 points for the Timberwolves, whose previous low was 89 points Nov. 20 against Denver.
