OUTLOOK

A team that took its lumps last year in a tough league has a chance to reap the rewards this season. The Royals have starters back at guard, forward and center, which should provide plenty of stability on the floor, and some experienced players (Waldie, Schiavone) coming off the bench. Despite the experience, Rosary must rely heavily on contributions from its youngest players, Murphy and Celio. Celio has a chance to develop into one of the league’s top players even now; she played soccer last year (earning first-team all-league honors). Her development should complement Chey (15.5 points), Rosary’s floor leader. The Royals’ strength is their experience, but more important is their ability to draw on experiences from last season and not repeat their mistakes from a year ago, when they finished seventh. Rosary also has good team speed, an important asset in the Sunset League. Because no one is taller than 5-11, rebounding is one area of concern, but they’re optimistic after a strong showing this summer.
