Metrolink, the commuter rail service, will run a special holiday shopping train for San Gabriel Valley residents who want to go to Downtown Los Angeles at reduced fares this Saturday.

“It’s a great opportunity to take the family on a mini-vacation and not spend much money,” said Metrolink executive director Richard Stanger.

Round-trip adult tickets are $4 each for those leaving from the Claremont and Pomona stations. Children between the ages of 6 and 18 and the elderly and disabled pay $2.75. The adult fare is $3.25 for Covina, Baldwin Park and El Monte departures, and $2.25 for children between 6 and 18 and for the elderly and disabled.

There will be two departures from each San Gabriel Valley station in the morning on the San Bernardino Line and one return train in the late afternoon. The trains go to Union Station in Los Angeles. Once there, travelers can ride for 25 cents on the Metro Red Line or the DASH shuttle bus around downtown. Information: (800) 371-LINK.
