Three-Point Attack Buries Northridge

The University of San Diego held on to defeat host Cal State Northridge, 75-66, Wednesday night for its third consecutive victory over the Matadors and sixth in seven meetings.
San Diego (3-1) led, 41-30, at halftime, but missed six of its first seven shots in the second half and Northridge (1-5) pulled to within five points, 45-40, with 15 minutes 5 seconds to play.
The Toreros bounced back behind senior center Brooks Barnhard and senior forward Christopher Grant, who each scored eight points in the second half, and rebuilt their margin to 11 points, 57-46, with 12 minutes remaining.
Northridge, which got 17 points from Chris Yard and 15 from Brooklyn McLinn, rallied again to cut the deficit to six, 61-55, on reserve guard Ryan Martin’s jump shot, but a three-point play by David Fizdale, consecutive baskets by Grant and a three-point basket by Barnhard put San Diego comfortably ahead, 71-55. Barnhard, who sank four of eight three-point shots, finished with a game-high 21 points, and guard Doug Harris added 19 points, sinking five of eight three-pointers.
San Diego had seven three-pointers in the opening 20 minutes.
