A 29-year-old man who was critically wounded in a shooting at his home was identified Thursday as Gifford Madden.

Two men forced their way into Madden’s home in the 6200 block of Hefley Street about 2 p.m. Wednesday. Madden was shot in the chest with a handgun during a struggle, according to Detective Mike Proctor.

Madden was able to pull out his own handgun and shoot one of the men, police said. The wounded attacker and his accomplice then ran back out to their pickup truck and drove off, Proctor said.

Madden told police he did not know his attackers, and investigators have been unable to determine the motive for the shooting, Proctor said.

Madden was listed in critical condition at a hospital, officials said.

The getaway car was a red newer model Toyota or Nissan pickup truck, with gray stripes on the side, Proctor said.

Anyone with information should call him at (714) 898-3315, Ext. 335, or Detective Terry Selinske at Ext. 336.
