1992-93: 18-1, 5-0 in the Century League; Southern Section Division I tournament and dual runner-up to Indio; finished 12th at State tournament.

Outlook: El Modena scored a major coup when the Vanguards snared the league title from rival Canyon for the first time in 12 years. From there, El Modena placed 12th in the State tournament, a finish Clinton expects the Vanguards will improve on. “We should make a great showing. We have a solid nucleus and some young kids developing,” said Clinton, who’s excited and cautious about his team’s chances. The nucleus includes Wells and Alvarez, individual section champions, and Jaime, a third-place section finisher.
