PASADENA : 3 Rose Parade Floats to Be Dedicated to Child Victims

Share

In the wake of the Polly Klaas kidnaping and slaying, three floats in the Rose Parade will be dedicated to children who have been victims of violence, an official announced today.

Bill Lofthouse, president of Bent Parade Floats, said Tournament of Roses officials contacted him after the body of the 12-year-old Petaluma girl was found last Saturday, asking if any float could be used to help fight violence against children.

The Oddfellows and Rebekahs service organization, which operates homes for abused children, immediately agreed to dedicate its float to all children who have been victims of violence, Lofthouse said. That float, which Lofthouse is building, already had a children-oriented theme, “Adventures Through the Eyes of a Child,” he said.

Decisions to dedicate the other two floats were made Friday, he said. They are the Kiwanis International float, with a theme already selected of “Children: Priority No. 1,” and the Lions Club International float, with a theme of “The Lion and the Lamb.”

All three organizations work on behalf of children in different ways, and readily agreed to join the anti-violence dedication.
