A settlement of Stephan Hagins’ lawsuit against Arizona State has been delayed, at least until Monday. Hagins, a standout catcher from University High, sued Arizona State last week over the school’s refusal to allow him to play because of a heart-valve condition, but he’s expected to drop the suit in exchange for his release from a letter of intent.

“We should have everything inked Monday,” said Joe Rocco, Hagins’ Phoenix attorney. “The only holdup is Steve had to go to California for the weekend, so he can’t sign (the settlement) until Monday.” Hagins, a freshman who was considered one of the nation’s top high school prospects last spring, is expected to transfer to a school in Southern California.
