Jack Farrell of Thousand Oaks and Ken Reeves of Nordhoff were selected as co-boys’ coaches of the year with Farrell and Bill Duley of Agoura sharing the girls’ coach of the year award.

Farrell guided the Thousand Oaks boys to an undefeated season, capped by a record-setting victory in the state Division I championships last month.

The Lancers won the team title with an all-time low of 23 points and their team time--cumulative time of their top five runners--of 77 minutes 59 seconds over the 5,000-meter Woodward Park course lowered the previous best set by Arroyo (1987) by 24 seconds .

Thousand Oaks’ record lasted only a week, however, as Mead High of Spokane, Wash., posted a team time of 77:20 in the Foot Locker West regionals.

The Thousand Oaks girls struggled during the first half of the season but closed with a flourish, finishing third in the Southern Section Division I championships and sixth in the state Division I meet.

Reeves guided the Nordhoff boys to the state Division III title two years after the Rangers won the Division IV championships. Nordhoff also finished second behind Thousand Oaks in the county championships.
