Some of their faces are new, but when it comes to Michigan, the Duke Blue Devils get the same results.

No. 4-ranked Duke defeated No. 3 Michigan for the fourth consecutive time over three seasons and Saturday’s 73-63 victory at Ann Arbor, Mich., was a combination of the Blue Devils’ balance and depth and the Wolverines’ poor shooting.

“We’re very excited with this win,” Coach Mike Krzyzewski said. “This is not a well-oiled machine like two years ago. In fact, I’m not sure we have a machine of any kind at this point.”

Michigan no longer had Chris Webber, who opted for the NBA after his sophomore season. Duke was without Bobby Hurley, the point guard who led the Blue Devils to two national championships, who graduated last spring.

But the game was exciting nonetheless. Duke (5-0) led the entire game, and was on the verge of taking control with 6 1/2 minutes to play with a 14-point lead. But the Wolverines (5-1) went to a full-court trapping defense that forced enough turnovers to enable them to close to 65-60 with 3:07 left.

Cherokee Parks, a junior center from Huntington Beach, led Duke with 23 points. Grant Hill had 18 and Antonio Lang and Marty Clark had 10 each. Jalen Rose had 31 points and Juwan Howard added 20 for Michigan, which had won 13 in a row at home.

No. 1 Arkansas 123, Delaware State 66--Al Dillard made 12 three-point baskets, setting a Southeastern Conference record at Fayetteville, Ark. Dillard was 12 of 22 from three-point range and finished with 39 points. He broke the SEC mark of 10 set by Chris Jackson of Louisiana State in 1990. The NCAA record of 14 was set by Dave Jamerson of Ohio in 1989. The Razorbacks (5-0) led, 29-8, early and, 58-25, at halftime.

No. 18 Georgia Tech 86, Mercer 69--Travis Best scored 19 points as the Yellow Jackets (3-1) won at Atlanta.
