HACKENSACK, N.J. — Little-used Tyrone Mays made two free throws--his only points of the game--in the final minute of the third overtime to give Long Beach State a 108-107 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday night.
The game went to a third overtime on a desperation heave by Fairleigh Dickinson guard Ray Ankton as the second overtime ended. Long Beach guard Jeff Rogers had converted a three-pointer 14 seconds before Ankton’s shot.
Fairleigh Dickinson (4-2) took an 18-8 lead as senior center Tanner Robinson scored eight of his 18 points in the first seven minutes.
Long Beach (5-2) countered with a 21-2 run to take a 29-20 lead. Rod Hannibal scored 12 of his team-high 27 points in the run.
Junior point guard Antwan Dasher, who scored 33 points, led the Knights.
There were 17 ties or lead changes after halftime.
“It was a great team win,” Long Beach Coach Seth Greenberg said. “Everybody stepped up for us, all 11 players.”
