NBA ROUNDUP : Webber’s Extra Effort Gives Warriors a Lift

Rookie Chris Webber scored five of his 24 points in overtime, carrying the Golden State Warriors to a 108-106 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday night at Portland.

Latrell Sprewell scored a season-high 33 points for the Warriors.

Rod Strickland and Clifford Robinson each scored 27 points for the Trail Blazers, who lost for the first time in five games. Robinson missed a potential game-tying shot from 15 feet with five seconds left, and Strickland missed a rebound put-back before time expired.

Cleveland 107, Indiana 103--Mark Price scored seven of his 21 points in overtime, making a go-ahead 18-foot jump shot with 28 seconds left at Richfield, Ohio.

The Cavaliers extended their winning streak to four games and Indiana’s losing streak to four games.

Price, who made two of 11 shots in the first three quarters, scored 13 points in the fourth quarter and overtime.

San Antonio 99, Boston 85--David Robinson scored 46 points at San Antonio to lead the Spurs.

Robinson made 16 of 26 shots and 14 of a career-high 23 free throws. He dominated Robert Parish, Acie Earl and Dino Radja to help the Spurs end a three-game losing streak and extend Boston’s losing streak to five overall and seven straight on the road.

Robinson increased his season scoring average to a league-high 28.6 per game, same as Orlando’s Shaquille O’Neal.

New Jersey 91, Atlanta 87--Armon Gilliam, starting because Derrick Coleman was ill, scored 18 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Nets at East Rutherford, N.J.

Dominique Wilkins scored 23 points and Kevin Willis had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who suffered their second consecutive loss after winning 16 of 17.

Atlanta trailed 86-77 after Chris Morris made two free throws with 5:45 left, but the Nets were scoreless for the next 4:50.

Kenny Anderson had 15 points and 13 assists for the Nets.

Miami 109, Sacramento 95--Reserve guard Brian Shaw scored 20 points and Steve Smith had 23 at Miami as the Heat extended its win streak to five games.

Mitch Richmond scored 38 points for the Kings, but he couldn’t prevent their 13th loss in 15 games.

Denver 100, Minnesota 97--Bryant Stith made a 16-foot jump shot from the lane with 25 seconds left at Denver, lifting the Nuggets to the victory.

Reggie Williams’ free throw with 5.2 seconds left increased the margin to three points before Christian Laettner missed a three-point shot at the buzzer.
