Kids’ Memorabilia Show a Family Draw

So the kids have a ton of comic books and sports cards cluttering up their rooms. Before you put your foot down and insist that the junk go out, consider the following.

One, they’re sitting on an eventual gold mine of memorabilia (Mickey Mantle baseball cards go for several hundred dollars, and the value of a Michael Jordan card is nothing to sneeze at, either).

And, two, this is a great opportunity to bond with your offspring.

“What I take pride in is this is a family show. It’s geared towards kids,” said Donna Arnott, who is organizing Sunday’s Sportscard, Comic Book, Pin and Memorabilia Show at the Pasadena Center. “I’ve seen a lot of families come into my shows and they’re all getting one thing or another.”

Because Arnott wants everyone to be involved, the 35 vendors she’s invited don’t tend to have really expensive items. “Occasionally, I’ll have vendors come up with higher-priced stuff,” said Arnott. Prices generally range from 50 cents to $35 for comic books, and from 10 cents to more than $50 for sports cards.

If sports and superheroes don’t exactly turn on everyone in your family, the show also features Disney trading cards and some older Disney comic books, as well as pins from various Olympics and, of course, Disney.

“There’s something that the whole family can collect,” Arnott said.

Her vendors are fully licensed and mostly sell their wares only through shows. “These are people who do this for a little extra income,” she said.

Show hours at the center, 300 East Green St., are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
