Prosecutors charged an Oxnard man with murder Thursday in connection with the Christmas Day stabbing of his ex-girlfriend’s son.

Ventura County Municipal Judge Bruce A. Clark set bail at $250,000 for 32-year-old Jose Socorro Jimenez.

Witnesses said Jimenez stabbed 21-year-old Isaias Guerrero after showing up at the family’s Campbell Way home about 3 a.m.

Before the stabbing, the victim had tried to escort Jimenez off the family’s property, witnesses said. When Jimenez returned to the home about 3 a.m., he allegedly yelled that the victim’s mother, 36-year-old Graciela Guerrero, was “going to pay” for breaking off their three-year relationship.

Graciela Guerrero and about half a dozen other relatives sat in the back of the courtroom Thursday during Jimenez’s court appearance.

The $250,000 bail was set after authorities said Jimenez was unemployed and has had several criminal convictions, including ones for spousal battery and driving under the influence.

At the request of Deputy Public Defender Brian Fitzpatrick, Jimenez’s arraignment was continued until Jan. 14.
