Three men were arrested during a traffic stop early Sunday after Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies found Molotov cocktails, a flare gun and containers of gasoline in their car, authorities said.

Deputies from the Lennox station had stopped the vehicle for speeding near 113th Street and Normandie Avenue about 3:30 a.m., and noticed a heavy odor of gasoline coming from inside their vehicle, Deputy Diane Hecht said.

The deputies found four of the incendiary Molotov cocktails--bottles filled with fuel and plugged with a wick that is ignited and hurled. They also found a flare gun, ski masks, gloves and several containers of gas.

The driver, Isaac Nash, 21, of Los Angeles, and passengers Jonathan Turner, 21, of Indio, and William Morrell, 21, of Long Beach, were arrested on suspicion of possession of a destructive device, Hecht said.

They were jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail each, she said.

The three men refused to say why they had the explosives or what they planned to do with them, Hecht said.
