No Place Like Home for Bills : AFC: Buffalo’s 30-10 victory over Indianapolis clinches home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Buffalo Bills are staying home for the playoffs.

Thurman Thomas rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown and Jim Kelly and Frank Reich each passed for one touchdown Sunday as the Bills beat the Indianapolis Colts, 30-10, to earn home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

“I think we earned it,” Kelly said. “Definitely, we earned it this year to be in the position we are.”

Buffalo (12-4) finished with four victories in a row for the first time since 1973 and earned a first-round bye in its bid for a fourth consecutive trip to the Super Bowl.

“It’s very big,” Kelly said. “Especially the week off. I’m kind of sore, and some other players I know are, too. Any time you play in our back yard with the weather conditions and those 80,000 crazy people, it’s definitely a plus for us.”

Indianapolis (4-12), which lost four fumbles, ended with its eighth loss in nine games. A 10-yard touchdown pass from Jeff George to Jessie Hester with 6:55 left was only the Colts’ second touchdown in the last seven games.

Buffalo led, 10-3, at halftime, but added field goals of 49 and 40 yards by Steve Christie in the third quarter and put the game out of reach with Kelly’s one-yard touchdown pass to Pete Metzelaars early in the fourth. Reich completed a 30-yard scoring pass to Bill Brooks less than two minutes later after an Indianapolis fumble.

Thomas, whose last 100-yard game had been six weeks earlier, also against the Colts, ran three yards for the Bills’ first touchdown late in the second quarter.

Rookie Roosevelt Potts led the Colts with 100 yards rushing, but fumbled once to set up Christie’s third field goal.

George completed 30 of 48 passes for 330 yards, but was sacked four times. Kelly completed 15 of 27 passes for 125 yards. The touchdown pass to Brooks was the only attempt for Reich, who replaced Kelly in the final quarter.
