COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Ridley Leads Cal Lutheran to 11th Victory in a Row

Damon Ridley scored a game-high 21 points to lead Cal Lutheran to a 93-67 victory over UC Santa Cruz in a nonconference men’s basketball game Friday night.

It was the third game in a row Ridley has scored 21 or more points as the Kingsmen (11-0) extended their school-record winning streak.

Derrick Clark (nine rebounds) and Paul Smith each added 16 points for Cal Lutheran.

Paul Tapp and Rupert Sapwell scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Kingsmen, who will open Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Occidental on Wednesday.

David Goldberg led UC Santa Cruz with 16 points.

In another men’s game:

The Master’s 74, Bethany 65--Colin Lubsey had 14 points, four rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals for Master’s in a NAIA Far West Region opener at Master’s.

The win was the third in a row for the Mustangs (14-3) and their 10th in 11 games.

Trailing, 36-32, at halftime, Master’s hit 14 of 28 shots from the field--including five of nine three-point attempts--and nine of 10 free throws in the second half.

Emeka Okenwa added 13 points and 11 rebounds for Master’s. Doug Leaman (12 points), Andy Thompson (12 and six assists) and Mike Penberthy (11 points) also scored in double figures.

Clint Ladine scored a game-high 19 points for Bethany and Joe Woods added 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots.

WOMEN

Cal Lutheran 76, Chapman 66--Center Kelli McCaskill scored a game-high 23 points to help Cal Lutheran (3-5) defeat the visiting Panthers (3-10) in a nonconference game.

Cal Lutheran owned a nine-point lead at halftime.

Chris Lobitz scored 15 points for Cal Lutheran, followed by Darcy White with 13.

The Master’s 69, Mills 51--Deborah Prociw scored 18 points and Kim DeVries and Connie VanWingerden each added 16 points to lead The Master’s (2-8) to its second victory in a nonconference game.
