THOUSAND OAKS : Cal Lutheran Lectures Focus on ‘90s Worship

Share

A series of lectures on contemporary worship services will highlight Cal Lutheran University’s WinterBreak, an annual, two-day session in late January that focuses on an aspect of Lutheran theology.

Headlining this year’s event will be lecturer Gracia Grindal, a professor of rhetoric at Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. She will present three lectures, titled “The Way It Was,” “The Mess We’re In” and “Some Possible Ways Out.”

Grindal has published several books, including “Speaking of God,” “Scandinavian Folksongs” and “Pulpit Rock.” Her special interest is the connection among theology, culture and hymns.

Other presenters at this year’s WinterBreak include musician and songwriter Ray Makeever, worship coordinator Tom Witt and worship consultant Mary Preus.

WinterBreak will be held Jan. 26 and 27.

Students at the Thousand Oaks college, which will still be in session during the event, may attend for free, as can campus staff.

Members of the lay public must pay $50 for the two-day session, and pastors must pay $95, as they receive continuing education credit for attending.
