The Suns, playing without Charles Barkley and Kevin Johnson, got 29 points and 17 rebounds from A.C. Green in a 122-107 victory Sunday night over the Golden State Warriors at Phoenix.

Barkley, the NBA’s most valuable player last season, was placed on the injured list earlier Sunday because of a small tendon tear in his right leg. He was injured during the Suns’ 110-103 victory over Minnesota on Friday night, and underwent a MRI test Saturday.

Richard Emerson, the Suns’ doctor, said he couldn’t decide how long Barkley would be out until he sees how the tendon responds this week. “This type of injury normally does not require surgery,” Emerson said.

Frank Johnson filled in for injured Kevin Johnson, the Suns’ No. 2 scorer, with 26 points and eight assists.

Kevin Johnson missed his third game in a row to rest a right thigh bruise and ankle sprain.

“We played a very proud team that forgot their adversities for two hours and kicked our butts,” Golden State Coach Don Nelson said.

Dan Majerle added 23 points, and Danny Ainge had 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to help Phoenix squelch a rally and win its third game in a row.

Chris Webber had 18 points, and Billy Owens had 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Warriors.

New York 99, Portland 85--Patrick Ewing scored 36 points and John Starks added 30 for the Knicks at New York.

The Knicks never trailed after the first quarter, but didn’t put the game away until the fourth. Ewing and Starks had 15 of New York’s points in a 17-7 run that gave the Knicks a 16-point lead with four minutes to play.
