Good Health Has Its Limits

Americans are supposedly more conscious of their fat and calorie intake, but it would seem they don’t give a hoot when it comes to ice cream.

The International Ice Cream Assn. says sales of higher-fat, super-premium ice creams rose 8% in 1992, while sales of lower-fat, cheaper ice creams were unchanged to slightly lower.

A Penn State food scientist, Dr. Arun Kilara, says consumers figure they’re treating themselves so “why not go all the way.”
