Jerrold A. Fadem; Condemnation Law Expert

Jerrold (Jerry) A. Fadem, 67, nationally known Los Angeles legal authority on condemnation. A native of St. Louis, Fadem studied at Washington University and graduated from UCLA in industrial management, later earning his law degree from Loyola University. He established a reputation and expertise in condemnation litigation by winning damages for homeowners who were unable to sell their homes because of airplane noise at Los Angeles International Airport. He went on to represent homeowners in litigation with government agencies over landslides, coastal zone restrictions, drainage of lakes and other problems diminishing their property values. Throughout his career, Fadem tried more than 200 condemnation cases in California and 14 other states. He chaired the State Bar of California’s Committee on Condemnation Law and Procedure, and was a popular lecturer and author on the subject. On Jan. 13 in Los Angeles of a cerebral hemorrhage.
