Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov stirred memories by winning the pairs title Wednesday and leading a Russian sweep of all three medals in the European Figure Skating Championships at Copenhagen.

Gordeeva and Grinkov skated with harmony and grace to Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” in a style reminiscent of the night in Calgary in 1988 when they performed to Chopin and Mendelssohn and won the Olympic gold medal.

Viktor Petrenko of Ukraine took the lead in the men’s event with a replay of the program that helped earn him the gold medal at the 1992 Olympics.
