LOS NIETOS SCHOOLS : Head Start Volunteer Appointed to Board

Share

A Whittier-area parent will join the Los Nietos School District board, filling a vacancy created when Adeline Rocha resigned in November.

The board voted 3 to 1 Tuesday to appoint Bobbie Gray, 40, from among five applicants. She will take office Feb. 8 to serve the remainder of Rocha’s four-year term, which ends in February, 1995.

A mother of two children in the district, Gray has been a volunteer worker on several parent and personnel committees, Supt. Chuck Menzies said. She is vice chairwoman of the policy-making board for the district’s Plaza de la Raza Head Start preschool program for low-income families, and has served on a similar board for the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Rocha, a member of the board for 14 years, left the district after winning a seat on the Whittier Union High School District board in the Nov. 2 election. The Los Nietos board subsequently decided to appoint Rocha’s successor rather than hold a special election.

The Los Nietos district serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade from the unincorporated area west of Whittier and near Santa Fe Springs.
