Century, Sr.
Basketball / Guard
Negrete, with a 10-point scoring average entering last Friday’s game against Trabuco Hills, isn’t the type of player for whom special defenses are created. “He does a little bit of everything that makes you good,” Century Coach Greg Coombs said. “And he did a lot the other night.” Negrete scored a career-high 26 points, including 14 in the first quarter, in an 80-57 victory over the then third-ranked Mustangs. He made seven of eight shots in the first quarter--and on his only miss he got the rebound and scored.
Other notables:
* Josh Cameron, Southern California Christian, averaged 27 points in victories over Anza Hamilton, Riverside Sherman Indian and CSDR.
* Lupe Rodriguez, St. Margaret’s, scored 26 points, including six of six three-pointers, and had eight assists in a victory over Liberty Christian.
* Vince Virgen, Buena Park, pinned Sunny Hills’ Dean Roman at 135 pounds to help the Coyotes to a 34-24 victory.
* Chris Vlasic, Pacifica, scored 27 points in each of two victories--93-80 over Garden Grove and 84-72 over Bolsa Grande.
