Strategic Mortgage Services, which is providing inspection work to earthquake victims at cost, said Wednesday that it also will assist home mortgage lenders hurt by the Jan. 17 Northridge quake by offering them free use of its operations center for the next two months.

SMS, which offers a variety of mortgage services nationwide, said the offer is open to residential mortgage lenders who suffered earthquake damage or losses to their own document processing operations.

The SMS facility, which is in Orange, will have computers and processing services available from 6:30 a.m. to midnight.

Since Jan. 25 when it first offered its inspection services at its cost--from $25 to $50--SMS has conducted more than 500 inspections of homes damaged by the earthquake, said Chris Nard, the company’s vice president for marketing.
