Gonzaga still occupies first place in the West Coast Conference, but Friday night Loyola Marymount exposed the Bulldogs as something less than a dominant basketball team.

Freshman guard Jim Williamson made a running, one-handed hook shot with three seconds left to give seventh-place Loyola an 82-80 upset at Gersten Pavilion.

It was the first conference loss for Gonzaga (14-5, 6-1), which led most of the game but was outscored by the Lions, 10-1, in the final two minutes.

Williamson scored Loyola’s last five points, hitting a three-point shot with 45 seconds left to put the Lions ahead, 80-79, for the first time since early in the first half. Gonzaga tied the score when guard Geoff Goss made one of two free throws with 12 seconds left.

That set the stage for Williamson, who drove around a pick set by center Ime Odouk at the top of the lane and sank a four-foot shot.

“I didn’t look at the basket,” Williamson said of his game-winning basket. “When I saw it go in, I almost stopped playing and started jumping up and down.”

Forward Wyking Jones led four players in double figures for Loyola (3-15, 2-5) with 26 points on 11-for-16 shooting.

Gonzaga got 20 points from Goss and 15 from center Jeff Brown.
