Brown’s 10 Three-Pointers Not Enough for UC Irvine

Share

UC Irvine hung close to Pacific during much of the first half Saturday night and got to within six points with six minutes to play, but the Anteaters gave up a couple of easy layups and took a couple of quick shots and lost, 88-79, in front of 4,571 at the Spanos Center.

It was the sixth loss in a row for UC Irvine, which got 36 points and a school-record 10 three-point baskets from Chris Brown.

Brown also tied the Big West Conference record for three-pointers, set by Freddie Banks of Nevada Las Vegas in 1987.

“The effort was pretty good,” Irvine Coach Rod Baker said, “but in crucial situations, we just didn’t make the plays.”

Irvine is 5-13 overall and 2-8 in the conference. Pacific is 14-8, 8-3, half a game behind New Mexico State.

The Anteaters suffered from the same problem that has contributed most heavily to their recent woes. Pacific shot 54% from the floor and Irvine made only 39%.
