Portland Finally Beats Pepperdine : College basketball: The Pilots’ 74-64 victory breaks a nine-game losing streak to the Waves, who fall to 5-5 in West Coast Conference play.

Canaan Chatman scored 16 points and Curt Ranta had 15 Saturday night to lead Portland to a 74-64 victory over Pepperdine in a West Coast Conference game.

Chatman also had 10 rebounds as the Pilots, 12-13 overall and 5-5 in WCC play, broke a nine-game losing streak to the Waves (12-10, 5-5).

Pepperdine was led by Dana Jones, who scored 16 points, nine in the second half.

The Pilots held a 31-27 halftime lead, then built the lead to 55-44 at 9:45 of the second half.

Portland’s Casey Flicker, who came off the bench to score 10 second-half points, made three consecutive free throws with 9:45 left to give the Pilots their biggest lead of the game.

Clark Jones sparked the Waves in the final three minutes with a pair of baskets, including a three-point field goal with 38 seconds remaining to close the gap to 68-64.

But the Pilots made eight free throws in the final 1:15 to stay ahead. Matt Houle added 13 points for Portland, 10 in the second half.
