U.S. skier Tommy Moe, who won the men’s downhill and finished second in the super-giant slalom, is of Norwegian extraction and was crowned “Earl of Alaska” by the Norwegian Viking Club.

This makes him Earl Tommy Moe, the man with three first names.

According to a Lillehammer press agency, Rodney Woolford of the Trinidad bobsled team “has had enough of Lillehammer.”

Apparently, Rodney’s luggage containing all his warm clothing and training gear failed to arrive with Rodney from the islands. Then, when it did turn up, half his gear was missing.

A cardboard box full of team gear also has disappeared, then Woolford got sick and will be unable to compete.

According to the Lillehammer press report, “ ‘I am longing to get back home,’ says the distraught Trinidadian.”

And, from the Famous Last Words department, this from columnist Terence Moore in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after Dan Jansen’s failure last Monday in the 500-meter speedskating.

“Here’s the good news: Jansen gets another chance Friday in the 1,000 meters. Here’s the bad news: Jansen will blow it again.”

Uh, no, Terence, here’s the good news. . . .
