FREEWAY ALERT: After a five-week closure for earthquake repairs, the Simi Valley Freeway between Reseda and Sepulveda boulevards will be partially reopened today or Monday, Caltrans officials said. With a portion of the eastbound freeway destroyed, traffic will be diverted to the westbound side of the roadway.. . . Over the weekend, Caltrans crews were re-striping the westbound side of the freeway to accommodate three lanes of traffic in each direction.

QUAKE HELP: In the second phase of a program to help victims of the Jan. 17 Northridge earthquake, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the governor’s Office of Emergency Services opened two service centers Saturday in Santa Clarita at 28460 Ave. Stanford and in Santa Monica at 1901 S. Bundy Drive. . . . In addition to accepting emergency aid applications, the centers will assist with long-term recovery, restoration and rebuilding efforts.

NO SURRENDER: It takes more than an earthquake to keep a good church down. Every Sunday, parishioners of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Pacoima come to Mass even though their sanctuary, where a statue lies shattered, above, has been red-tagged and services are held in the parking lot. (B1) . . . “I’ve been in the Valley for 43 years and this has been my parish all our lives,” said one churchgoer, who clearly is not ready to give up.

GANG TRUCE: Two San Fernando Valley gangs celebrated a 110-day truce by cheering their homeboys on in a football game at a Pacoima park. (B2) . . .The truce came three weeks too late to protect a 19-year-old, who watched the action from a wheelchair on the sidelines.
