MCA Subway Stop

Share

* To Universal/MCA officials may we all say, “For shame,” for their effort to grab for their corporate pocketbook (Feb. 11) monies generated to help alleviate the misery, pain and suffering inflicted by our Jan. 17 earthquake! Lives have been shattered; homes have been rendered uninhabitable; businesses both small and large have been destroyed, leaving thousands without jobs or income. And while area residents and businesses are struggling to piece together what they can--to rebuild, to support themselves and their families--we learn that MCA wishes to use federal assistance funds to change the location of a subway stop so that it will better line its corporate pockets.

Were the sum involved here even just a few thousand dollars, the mere idea of raiding earthquake relief funds for such self-serving, profit-driven purposes would be distasteful; we are not talking, though, of “just” a few thousand dollars, but rather of tens of million, of $40 million, $50 million, $60 million.

Let us hope that our public officials will respond accordingly and say no to this attempted raid by the greedy on funds intended for the needy.
