COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Martinez’s 9 RBIs Help Ventura, 29-3
Freshman third baseman Hernan Martinez set a school record with nine runs batted in to lead Ventura College to a 29-3 victory over Compton on Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game.
Martinez had a grand slam in the fifth inning and a three-run homer in the sixth.
The Pirates (3-2) had 19 hits and benefited from eight Compton errors. The last 14 Ventura runs were unearned.
Moorpark 7, Pierce 4--Rob Lanouette scattered three hits in five innings of relief to help Moorpark win the nonconference game.
Brian Allen went two for four with two runs batted in for Moorpark (5-1-1). Kevin Nykoluk’s solo home run in the fourth gave the Raiders a 5-1 lead.
Brian Sturges had two hits for Pierce (2-5).
Antelope Valley 4, Valley 2--The Marauders (5-2) scored all their runs in the seventh inning of the nonconference game.
Sophomore right-hander Ricky Dominguez (3-0) pitched four-hitter, allowing one earned run.
Oxnard 7, Cal Lutheran JV 0--Chad Olthoff (1-1) allowed three hits, struck out two and walked one in seven innings of the nonconference game at Oxnard.
CS Dominguez Hills 1, The Master’s 0--Matt Davis (0-1) pitched a four-hitter for the Mustangs (4-5-2), but the Toros’ Bert Horn gave up only two hits--to Steve Smith and Matt Henzie--in a nonconference game.
