MONTEBELLO : Design Contract OKd for Metrolink Station

Share

Montebello city officials say they hope to open a Metrolink passenger station next year.

The City Council recently awarded a $196,888 contract to Boyle Engineering to design the platform and parking lot. Council members unanimously approved an environmental study concluding that the station, which would be used by an estimated 668 passengers daily, would not have a negative impact on the neighborhood.

The proposed station, at Flotilla Street and Yates Avenue, would be one of five stops on the 58-mile track that runs from Los Angeles to Riverside. The city is still negotiating with officials at Chevron USA to purchase the eight-acre site, City Administrator Richard Torres said. The purchase should be complete by April, he said.

If all permits are approved, construction on the $5-million station could begin late this year, city Planning Director Paul Deibel said.
