Servite, Sr.

Basketball / Forward

When the Friars need points, they know to go to Vallas. Friday, he scored 10 of his game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter to lead Servite to a 47-46 victory over Sonora, top-seeded in Division III-AA. Trailing by one with 30 seconds to play, Servite got the ball to Vallas, who drove the lane and was fouled with three seconds remaining. He made the first free throw, Sonora called time out to disrupt his concentration, and then he made the second. He also had 22 points and nine rebounds in a 66-57 victory over Magnolia last week.

Other notables:

* Jeff Aguilar, Tustin, scored a career-high 21 points, including five three-pointers, in a 69-65 Division II-A victory over Pasadena Muir.

* John Mendrin, La Habra, scored two goals in the Highlanders’ 3-2 overtime victory over third-seeded La Canada in Division IV.
