OUTLOOK

The Comanches reached the Division IV-A quarterfinals last season and have a good nucleus of players back. Redfox, Valent and Wilson were all-league picks. All three are good hitters. The outfield is solid with Wilson and Valent, but the infield has some holes to fill. Gutierrez and Wyatt should move from the bench to the starting lineup as infielders. Pitching will be the key. Strunz is the only one with varsity experience and will have to assume responsibility of being the No. 1 starter, at least for now. Jacobs and Patterson are talented, but untested. One or both will have to step forward for the Comanches to challenge for the league title. Canyon didn’t get any favors from the league’s schedule-makers. The Comanches open against the league favorites, Santa Ana Valley and Orange, on the road. They will have to play four consecutive games against those two teams after the spring break. There’s not much room for error.
