OUTLOOK

Walters, an assistant coach at Calvary Chapel for five seasons, replaces Dale Walker. “I’m real excited,” Walters said. “I think we’ll be competitive and contend for the league title if we can avoid any additional injuries.” The Eagles suffered a major loss before the season’s opening pitch, when they learned sophomore pitcher Kenny Nash would not play this season. Nash, who was projected as the No. 1 starter, will have surgery on his right shoulder. Even without Nash, Hamilton, Herr and Jones could form the foundation of a solid pitching staff. They will all receive help from King, who is one of the league’s top catchers and a three-year starter. Walters is counting on Elliott to anchor the infield.
