A counselor at Los Amigos High School has been honored as the Southern California 1993-94 Counselor of the Year, district officials announced recently.

The California School Counselors Assn. named Judy Sadler as recipient of the Anne Upton Counselor of the Year Award, which recognizes outstanding performance in counseling. Sadler was one of six recipients statewide, district spokesman Alan Trudell said.

“I care very much for the students. I try to be a part of their lives in a positive way,” Sadler said after receiving the award.

“I want to help them make the decisions they need to make in their lives, to make them productive citizens, to give them the support they need,” she said.

Sadler has served the district for eight years, and learned Spanish on her own time to communicate better with students.

While saying that she appreciated the recognition, she added: “I feel like I’m accepting this on behalf of all the counselors in the Garden Grove Unified School District. They’re all doing a really wonderful job.”
